A Two Crew Trip

We’re off to Canada for our annual Quijote Cruising fun.  The trip has two legs or three, depending on how you choose to look at it.  If we look at the trip though the eyes of the quartermaster, we provision tree times: Seattle before we depart, Cambell River, and Victoria. It’ll take us two weeks to sail from Seattle to Campbell River via Princess Louisa Inlet and Desolation Sound. We’ll depart Seattle with Tina and Chuck on June 1st and head north into Canada.  We’ll clear customs in Bedwell Harbour on June 3rd.  Last year we found Bedwell closed and had to clear in Nanaimo.  Bedwell Harbour is back in business this year.

The morning after we clear customs, we’ll continue north into Silva Bay in the heart of the Gulf Islands. There we’ll meet up with Sapna, who crewed with us last year. If Silva Bay isn’t chockablock full of boats, we’ll anchor and spend the night there. If it is full of boats, we’ll continue north into Mark Bay, near to Nanaimo, with Sapna, Chuck, Tina, and me.  On the fifth of June, we’ll make our way across the Strait of Georgia and into Jervis Inlet. Princess Louisa Inlet is a small, thumb shaped inlet at the far end of the Jervis.  It’s a full day sailing, or motoring, from the entrance of Jervis to the entrance of Princess Louisa.  Once there at the base of Chatterbox Falls, we’ll spend two or three nights and hike up to the upper falls above Chatterbox.

After Princess Louisa Inlet, we’ll make our way through Desolation Sound for several days and end up in Campbell River, where we’ll drop Tina and Sapna and do our first reprovision.

From Campbell River, Chuck and I will wind our way South again to Victoria, where we’ll do our final crew exchange. Second crew, second half, third provision. Chuck departs, Kay, Mary Lou, and Knute climb aboard for our run out the Strait of Juan de Fuca to Barkley Sound and the Broken Group.

I’ll insert Knute’s chart graphic so we can see our path.  Thanks Knute!
